Employee Highlight: Why I Chose Physical Therapy

Employee Highlight: Why I Chose Physical Therapy

Featuring Jamie Karr, PTA, DPT, Rehab Manager at Treyton Oak Towers

Finding Inspiration Early

Jamie first discovered her passion for physical therapy at a high school career fair. Listening to a therapist speak about helping people recover from injuries, strokes, and accidents lit a spark that never went out.

“She shared stories of helping patients walk again and return to their favorite activities. I was immediately hooked—it sounded like such a rewarding career.”Jamie Karr

Her inspiration became personal when she experienced physical therapy firsthand during college. After a lateral compartment and entrapped nerve surgery in her leg, Jamie underwent a long recovery process. Thanks to the guidance of skilled therapists, she not only returned to collegiate running but went on to become nationally ranked following her surgery.

That experience, Jamie says, solidified her commitment to helping others reclaim their strength and independence.

Embracing Technology in Therapy

Today, Jamie leads the rehab department at Treyton Oak Towers with a focus on blending personalized care with innovative tools.

  • One Step app: Tracks stride length, gait velocity, and balance to evaluate fall risk.

  • Interactive Wii games: Engage patients in fun ways to improve balance, endurance, and multitasking.

“Technology allows us to tailor care in ways that are measurable, motivating, and ultimately more effective.”Jamie Karr

A Team That Makes a Difference

The therapy department at Treyton Oak Towers offers physical, occupational, and speech therapy—but what makes them special is their approach.

Jamie describes her team as deeply collaborative, with therapists working across disciplines to support every dimension of a patient’s recovery.

“What makes our team special is how we approach care from every angle, collaborating across disciplines to provide the best possible outcomes. Above all, we’re invested in the well-being of the people we serve.”

Jamie Karr’s journey—from high school inspiration to collegiate athlete and patient, to dedicated Rehab Manager—reminds us of the life-changing power of therapy. Her story is a testament to resilience, innovation, and compassion, values that guide her leadership every day at Treyton Oak Towers.
